GigaOM How to prepare for the future of technology

The one thing that has always remained constant over the technology industry is rapidly changing . Our goal is to stay five steps ahead of that change for you , our readers , can be at least two or three steps ahead .

Throughout 2013 I think it has been clear that the technology industry has stalled temporarily , while awaiting the next massive change in the way we use computers and the Internet. We have implemented this change predicted years ago the late Steve Jobs in the "post -PC " term is confusing to understand that the PC is about to disappear from the face of the earth , but it's really more about the fact that our primary personal computing experience has shifted towards smaller devices , more agile , like smartphones and tablets.

Anyone who has sat in an airport or waiting in line at the supermarket knows that when increasing numbers of people have a free moment , they are looking to their phones , which can be attractively packaged and last for days because you have taken a light style of computing that does not require powerful processors and storage systems to take advantage of computing resources stored away from massive data centers .

A few months ago I accepted a new job running GigaOM editorial group , and we are preparing to take the lessons we have learned from the chronicle of those two massive changes that are now accepted facts - cloud computing and mobile computing - and aa used to help describe the next wave of technological innovation. The hunger for readers , speakers at the event , and friends looking for evidence of this next big change has become very clear to me after several conversations in our Mobilize conference last week and as we prepare for our next conference Sheet Map, which will be held November 5th and sixth in San Francisco Yerba Buena Center for the Arts , the same place where Apple is planning to hold one of its mobile products , now mark Tuesday .

Many of these people asked me what GigaOM focuses on the time to write about this wonderfully crazy world of technology, where you will find applications as social sticker compete for attention with networks defined programs . The answer is quite simple. We write about the change : from business and society enormous changes taking place due to the march of technology and connectivity in every corner of our lives.

There are many different ways that you can write about the technology industry . Our goal is to provide our readers with the best news , analysis, features, and intelligence that we can produce in order to help them understand how these changes are affecting their businesses and their lives.

And the fundamental principle that GigaOM used to measure change is that Internet connectivity is the basis of modern technology industry . You can have the most powerful computers in the world or the most compelling social service ever developed , and none of that matters unless you can reach large numbers of people through a fast and reliable connectivity , and reasonably priced .

So in addition to the cloud and mobile computing issues we've been covering for years , in recent months we have begun to see new ideas found promising. I'm talking about topics such as technology and health education , which are changing rapidly and produce friction as mobile devices and permanent Internet connections collide with the bureaucracy , and a rapidly aging population . Laptop computers are becoming " intimate computer " equipment that we use as jewelry while demanding supercomputing performance . And we are taking a closer look and closer to new technologies such as 3D printing and the Internet of Things , which promise to transform the way physical goods which are produced by real objects to travel over the Internet and by placing connected equipment in the unlikely places.
