Experimental Qualcomm Toq SmartWatch

If you want to be at the forefront of technology smartwatch,Qualcomm is charging $ 350 for the privilege.

That is the amount Toq experimental Qualcomm smart-watch will cost when it is released on December 2. It will be available directly through Qualcomm 's website for U.S. customers only.

Like other smartwatches on the market now , Toq act as an extension of your smartphone (Android - only , for now). You can display notifications of applications for smartphones, accept or reject phone calls , fire text messages and show canned widgets for weather and stocks.

As my colleague Harry McCracken reported , Qualcomm does not see Toq as a mass market product , but as an experiment showing Mirasol screen technology company . Mirasol combines a full color screen with low power consumption , making it ideal for a smartwatch . Qualcomm says Toq can last for five days on a charge, and the screen stays on all the time , unlike power AMOLED Samsung Galaxy Gear .

Helps Qualcomm has built in some other energy saving measures , such as a backlight which can be activated manually in dark rooms and the option to use a touch strip instead of the full touch screen. The battery is integrated into the wristband to reduce the bulk of the watchface , and users can recharge the watch by placing it on a wireless charging dock .

Smartwatches have been less successful, partly because the technology is not yet good enough, and partly because simple applications and notifications are not enough to convince people that they should start wearing watches again. Virtual Assistant Software as Google now can help make a stronger argument , while the new display technology , as Mirasol will result in a better looking hardware . Qualcomm is hoping that some technology enthusiasts are going to pay to see all the pieces fall into place.
